We all know that we love to camp whether it be hiking in or taking a vehicle. But what can you do to make the likelihood of a safety issue less of a concern?
We have all been there before. We are parked in the middle of nowhere and someone comes up and parks near us. We hear their generator going all nite and their drunken escapades go on until 2. What can we do to minimize this?
Allow plenty of time before it gets dark to start looking for a campsite. Is it safe your Dog? Is it on high ground so that it will give you a better vantage point to see who is coming? Are you in a ravine that could become a roaring river if it were to rain? Does it allow you an easy means of escape if necessary? Do you know which way to escape if need be? Do you have both the tools and the knowledge if you have to respond with force?
Can you park where no one can go behind you? Can you see any visible animal holes? Are you near the only water source for miles that will attract the animals at night? Did the previous tenants burn pallets and leave the nails there for you to run over?
We live in a world that is full of danger. People, animals, natural hazards and sickness. Be aware of what is going on around you at all times. Take the necessary precautions for you and your family to protect yourself. Sometimes it is a long way to summon help. Be smart and think out the solution rather than acting irrationally.
I am not trying to scare you but rather make you aware. What other type of safety precautions do you take to protect yourself? Has it worked? What are some of the stories that you have?
